Learn More About Alcohol Addiction Treatment
Learn more about alcohol addiction treatment at Delta Specialty Hospital in Memphis, TN
Alcohol abuse is a significant problem for many individuals in today’s society. This is partially because alcohol is a part of normal life for many people; it’s legal and considered acceptable to use. The majority of people who drink do so socially, however for some, the ability to limit their drinking can become a problem. Alcohol is used frequently as a means to relax and can become a coping strategy for dealing with life stress, which can be a route to addiction.
While treatment for alcohol abuse is often thought to be relegated to support groups, a number of effective treatment options have been developed in the past decade. These treatments help the individual learn to handle stress properly, use problem-solving skills to cope with difficult situations, and learn ways to repair or build relationships and social support networks. These strategies recognize that while sobriety is an obvious goal, the problems don’t end there. People with alcoholism experience many negative consequences that far outlast the addiction. These techniques understand that each individual with alcohol-related problems has unique needs for treatment.
At Delta, we know how difficult it is to decide to seek an inpatient rehab center for your alcohol abuse. Perhaps you worry there may be a stigma associated with your disorder, and that others might judge you. Our trained staff have experience helping people fight their addiction and determining the best ways to handle any concerns you have. Most people find that the problems that most concern them can be easily handled with the proper skills and approaches. One of the benefits of inpatient care is that in addition to learning skills for future problems, you have the opportunity to practice these new skills before using them in real life.

Types of Treatment
Types of alcohol addiction treatment offered at Delta Specialty Hospital in Memphis, TN
We are strong advocates of comprehensive evaluation services prior to initiation of treatment. Many times, there are additional underlying problems that are contributing to alcoholism. We continue to assess your situation throughout your stay to ensure that we are helping you recover from all issues you may be struggling with. After your evaluation, your treatment team will work with you to create an individualized treatment plan that includes all of your needs.
Detox: Our detox center is for individuals in an active withdrawal or in danger of active withdrawal to detox safely and effectively before stepping down into an addiction rehab center.
Medication Evaluation and Medical Monitoring: At Delta, we understand that many people struggling with alcohol abuse may have co-occurring mental illnesses or medical conditions. If it is determined that you have co-occurring medical conditions, you’ll have the benefit of medical management under the same roof.
Family therapy: We include family members in many aspects of treatment throughout your stay and offer family therapy sessions to best allow you to educate your loved ones about alcoholism and your recovery process.
Group Therapy: Group sessions are our primary therapeutic approach at Delta. We have two types of groups for you to participate in during your recovery. Our psycho-educational groups provide information on special topics and teach skills for dealing with life stress, understanding triggers for abuse, and preventing relapse. Our process groups help you work through issues contributing to your alcohol abuse with peers who can provide feedback and support based on first-hand knowledge.
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT): We use CBT techniques in our different types of treatment options to address maladaptive thinking related to your alcoholism. We help you identify irrational thinking, challenge these thoughts, and replace them with rational thoughts, eliminating justifications you may have given yourself in the past as permission to continue drinking. CBT also helps individuals recognize how their negative thoughts relate to their mood states and behavioral responses.
We also provide several additional services to help you return to your highest level of functioning. These include:
- Recreational therapy
- Nutrition and wellness counseling
- Therapeutic activities
- Spiritual guidance
